User groups help you organize users and assign permissions efficiently. Instead of setting permissions for each user individually, assign them to a group.
Built-In Groups
Modalius includes pre-configured groups for common use cases:
| Group | Category | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| View Only | Access | View all non-secret resources in the system |
| Organization Managers | Access | Manage all resources, excluding permissions, user groups, and users |
| Partner Relations | Role | Manage business units and partner relationships |
| EDI Support | Role | Manage files and orders, including modifying, replaying, and closing them |
| Technical Specialists | Role | Manage connections and credentials used in file exchanges with Modalius |
Access vs. Role Groups: Access-based groups (like View Only and Organization Managers) set the overall level of system access. Role-based groups (like Partner Relations and EDI Support) enable specific day-to-day operational tasks. Users are often assigned one access group and one or more role groups.
Benefits of Groups
- Easier permission management
- Consistent access for similar roles
- Quick changes - update the group, all members update
- Clearer organization of users
Assigning Users to Groups
You can assign groups when inviting a user, or add them to groups later:
- Navigate to Users
- Click on the user
- Find the Groups section
- Add or remove group assignments
- Save changes
Multiple Groups
Users can belong to multiple groups. Their effective permissions are the combination of all their groups. For example, a user in both "EDI Support" and "Technical Specialists" can manage files AND configure connections.
Recommended Group Combinations
| Job Function | Suggested Groups |
|---|---|
| Operations Staff | EDI Support |
| Customer Service | View Only |
| Business Analyst | View Only + EDI Support |
| IT Administrator | Technical Specialists + Partner Relations |
| Full Access (non-admin) | Organization Managers |
Removing Users from Groups
To remove a user from a group:
- Navigate to the user's profile
- Remove the group assignment
- Save changes
The user loses permissions associated with that group immediately.
