You can create custom labels for transaction types to match your business terminology, making EDI codes easier to understand.
Why Customize Labels?
Standard EDI codes like "204" or "214" aren't intuitive. Custom labels help your team understand what each transaction type means in your business context.
For example:
- 204 could become "Shipment Request"
- 214 could become "Tracking Update"
- 990 could become "Carrier Confirmation"
Label Levels
Labels can be set at two levels:
- Organization Level - Apply to all business units in your organization
- Partner Level - Apply to a specific partner only (overrides organization labels)
How to Customize Labels
For Partner-Level Labels:
- Navigate to Organization > Settings
- Find the Transaction Labels section
- Click Add Label
- Select the transaction type (e.g., 204)
- Enter your custom label
- Click Save
Where Labels Appear
Custom labels appear throughout Modalius:
- File lists and search results
- File details page
- Filters and dropdowns
- Order tracking
Enabling or Disabling Custom Labels
Your organization has a Use Custom Labels setting:
- On - Display custom labels (default)
- Off - Display raw EDI codes (204, 214, etc.)
Individual users can also override this setting in their preferences.
Tips for Good Labels
- Keep labels short (2-4 words)
- Use terminology your team understands
- Be consistent across business units if possible
- Consider what makes sense for daily operations
Note: If you don't set a custom label, Modalius displays the standard EDI transaction name (e.g., "Motor Carrier Load Tender" for 204).
