This guide walks you through uploading your first EDI file in Modalius. You'll learn how to use the upload dialog, select business units, and monitor your file's progress through the processing pipeline.
Before You Begin
Make sure you have:
- An active Modalius account with login credentials
- At least one business unit set up for sending files
- An EDI file ready to upload (.edi, .x12, or .txt format)
Step 1: Open the Upload Dialog
- Log in to Modalius at app.modalius.com
- Click Files in the navigation menu
- Click the Upload File button in the top right corner
The "Upload EDI File" dialog will open.
Step 2: Select Your File
You have two options to select your file:
- Drag and drop your file directly onto the drop zone
- Click the drop zone to open your file browser and select a file
Once selected, you'll see:
- The file name
- The file size
- An X button to remove the file and select a different one
Supported file types: .edi, .x12, .txt
Step 3: Choose Business Units
Source Business Unit (Required)
Select the business unit that is sending this file from the dropdown menu. This field is required.
Target Business Unit (Optional)
You can either:
- Select a specific business unit from the dropdown
- Leave it as "Auto-detect from file" - Modalius will read the target from the EDI file headers
Tip: Most EDI files contain the receiver information in their headers. Using auto-detect is convenient and reduces errors.
Step 4: Upload the File
- Verify your file and source business unit are selected
- Click the Upload button
- Wait for the upload to complete (you'll see a progress indicator)
On success, you'll see a green notification: "File uploaded successfully" with a View link to open the file details.
Step 5: Monitor Processing
After uploading, your file moves through the processing pipeline. Click the file in the list (or the "View" link) to see its progress.
1. Processing - File received and being parsed
2. Processed - File validated successfully
3. Mapped - Data transformed for recipient
4. Delivering - File being sent to destination
5. Delivered - Successfully sent to partner!
Viewing File Details
The file detail page shows:
- Status badge - Current processing stage (color-coded)
- Structured EDI View - Parsed file content with transaction sets
- Raw File - Original EDI text content
- Processing History - Timeline of all processing events
- Versions - File version history (if applicable)
If Something Goes Wrong
If your file encounters an error:
- The status will show in red (Processing Error, Delivery Error, or General Error)
- Check the Processing History for error details
- For file content issues, use the Raw File tab to edit and resubmit
- Use the action buttons (Process, Map, Deliver) to retry specific stages
