If you can't find a partner when trying to establish a relationship, there are several possible reasons and solutions.
Check Discoverability Settings
Partners must enable discoverability for their business units to appear in search.
How it works:
- Each business unit has a discoverable setting that controls whether it appears in partner search
- Partners can also selectively enable discoverability to specific organizations
- Only business units belonging to billable partners can be discoverable
Solution: Contact the partner directly and ask them to enable discoverability for their business unit, or ask them to send you a partnership request instead.
Verify the Name
You might be searching for the wrong name.
- Try variations of the company name
- Search for partial names (first few letters)
- Ask the partner what their exact business unit name is in Modalius
- They may use a different name for EDI than their legal company name
Business Unit vs. Organization
Partners may have multiple business units with different names.
- A large company might have business units for different divisions or locations
- Ask for their specific business unit name, not just the company name
- Each business-unit-to-business-unit connection is a separate relationship
Not on Modalius
The organization may not be using Modalius.
- Verify they actually use Modalius for EDI
- They may use a different EDI platform or VAN
- If they're not on Modalius, you'll need to set up an external connection (SFTP, AS2, or API) instead of a direct partnership
Already Connected
You might already have a relationship with them.
- Check your Active partners list - the relationship may already exist
- Check Pending requests - you may have already sent a request
- Business units with existing relationships won't appear in the "new partner" search
Partner Business Unit Deleted
The partner's business unit may have been deleted or deactivated.
- Deleted business units do not appear in search results
- Contact the partner to confirm their business unit status
- They may need to create a new business unit or reactivate the existing one
Alternative: Have Them Send the Request
If you can't find a partner in search:
- Contact the partner directly
- Ask them to send you a partnership request instead
- Provide them with your business unit name so they can find you
- Accept their request when it arrives
Tip: Make sure your own business units are discoverable so partners can find you easily. Go to Organization > Business Units and enable discoverability for each business unit you want partners to be able to find.
