Managers and administrators can create new business units for their organization to represent different divisions, locations, or operational identities for EDI file exchange.
Before You Begin
You need the Manage-BusinessUnits permission (typically held by Managers and Admins) to create business units.
Note: Your organization may have a limit on the maximum number of business units you can create. Contact your administrator if you reach the limit.
How to Create a Business Unit
- Navigate to Organization > Business Units in the side menu
- Click Add Business Unit
- Fill in the required information
- Configure optional settings
- Click Create
Required Fields
- Display Name - The name partners will see when they search for you or view your business unit. Use your company name or a recognizable identifier.
- Public ID - A unique code for your business unit. This appears in EDI transactions. Cannot contain parentheses.
Optional Settings
| Setting | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Discoverability | Allow other organizations to find this business unit in partner search | Off |
| SFTP Delivery Location | Where received files should be placed | Root |
| Duplicate Filename Handling | How to handle files with the same name | Error |
| Custom Labels | Display custom transaction type labels | On |
What Happens After Creating
Once created, Modalius automatically:
- Generates SFTP credentials (username, password, and SSH key) for the business unit
- Creates the business unit's SFTP directory structure
- Makes the business unit available for partner relationships
You can then:
- View SFTP credentials for the business unit
- Set up partner relationships
- Configure EDI identifiers
- Upload a business unit logo
- Assign users to the business unit
Tip: After creating a business unit, navigate to its detail page to view the auto-generated SFTP credentials. You will need these to configure file transfers with your partners.
